KARTA TECHNICZNA TopZinc RS (pobierz)
TopZinc RS is a protector for the cathodic protection of reinforcement directly or indirectly connected to rebar with the smallest possible dimensions, particularly dedicated to renovated structures and structures with undersized lagging. The TopZinc RS zinc protector, which is directly or indirectly connected to the reinforcement bars, is used for cathodic protection in new or refurbished constructions according to EN ISO 12696. The zinc protector directly connected to the reinforcement for cathodic protection is used when there is unrestricted and free access to the reinforcement bars. If there is no access, we install the zinc protector for cathodic protection of the reinforcement indirectly using the connection set and TopZinc Electric Anchor. After concreting or repairing the elements with the previously connected TopZinc RS zinc protectors for cathodic protection of the reinforcement, the process of corrosion protection of the rebar begins. The protection process is permanent from the beginning of the installation of the protectors, but it starts as soon as corrosion processes occur due to external factors (cracks, carbonisation of concrete, aggressive factors influencing corrosion of steel, chlorides, other compounds). In reality, the protection period is longer. The specified period of protection, e.g. 15 years, is for cases in which the corrosive factors are immediately present. Zinc protector for cathodic protection of reinforcement TopZinc RS protects reinforcing bars in reinforced concrete elements subjected to the exposure class in accordance with EN 206-1. Each zinc protector for cathodic protection of reinforcement TopZinc RS has four metallic connection wires, a special cavity along the long side which serves for proper connection of the protector to the reinforcement bar.
The TopZinc RS zinc protector for cathodic protection of rebar comes in two different dimensions due to the fact that it accommodates different weight zinc cores inside:
TopZinc RS – variety 70 H:W:Thick [mm] 15:30:55 – with a zinc core weight of 70g
TopZinc RS – variety 210 H:W:Thick [mm] 15:60:65 – with 210g zinc core weight
For renovation projects, cathodic protection in accordance with EN 1504-9 principle 10 is particularly suitable for chloride contamination or lagging carbonation. The cathodic protection allows an effective and long-lasting reduction in corrosion and counteracts the problem of the anode reproducing. In the case of overhaul work , repairs made only with repair materials are not effective. In the standard requirements, there are restrictions on the chloride ion content of repair mortars for concrete restoration. When a repaired reinforced concrete structure comes into contact between the liquid that is in the pores of the concrete and contains chlorides and the pore liquid of a fresh repair mortar without chlorides, in accordance with the principle of equilibrium of solution concentrations, the migration of chlorides into the fresh repair mortar will occur. This will lead to corrosion of the 'traditionally repaired’ reinforcement. In order to select the number of zinc protectors for the cathodic protection of the reinforcement we need to know the diameter and length of the reinforcement bars to be protected, the exposure class according to EN 206-1 [5] and the assumed number of years of protection. In such cases, other methods than the traditional repair methods must be used, e.g. according to the European harmonised standard EN 1504-9, e.g. rule 10 cathodic protection with zinc sacrificial protectors for the cathodic protection of reinforcement. TopZinc RS. After calculating the number of cathodic protectors required for the cathodic protection of the reinforcement, it is advisable to position the cathodic protectors for the cathodic protection of the reinforcement in such a way that an even current distribution is ensured along the entire length of the rebar.
